One of South Florida’s most distinctive historic structures, the Sample-McDouald House was built in 1916 by Albert Neal Sample, a Pompano area pioneer. The house was originally located on Dixie Highway, in the midst of Sample’s pineapple fields.
In 1943 the house was purchased by William D. McDougald, a Deerfield Beach farmer and lawman. The family preserved the house’s original architectural style. The structure was moved to the current location and is now open to the public for tours and special events. It serves as a visible reminder of our pioneer heritage.
Mary Belle will be exhibiting her porcelain art at this historic house from March 5th until March 21st, 2014.

ARTSERVE and the Museum of Discovery and Science collaborated in their Everglades Forever project on December 7th and 8th, 2013. Twenty artists were selected to show their art and encourage visitors to view the Everglades and support the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan. Building a connection through art and lectures was the theme for the weekend.
The expended attendance of this event was 4,000 people per day.
Mary Belle Cordell was a featured artist and speaker at the museum on Sunday, December 8, 2013. Her porcelain painting was titled “Silent Retreat”. The painting included a blue heron in a misty Everglades setting. She spoke about the threatened and endangered species who reside in the boundaries of Everglades National Park and about the restoration that began in 1980 and continues today. Mary Belle stated: “There is a never ending supply of beautiful art to be seen in our own back yard, “The River of Grass”, the Florida Everglades.”
